SHOE NAILS MUSEUM - NAGELSCHMIEDEMUSEUM

This web site is dedicated to the Shoe Nails Museum and to the village of Starý Rožmitál (Old Rozmital), part of the town Rožmitál pod Třemšínem in the Czech Republic, 80 km southwest from Prague.

At the Rozmital region there was a production of hand made nails and shoe nails concentrated for more than 200 years. Almost at every second house at villages there was a workshop. Shoe nails were produced mainly for armies during the World War I and World War II, nails of different types and sizes were made for daily use.

The museum ( 49°36'22.987"N, 13°51'7.832"E ) you can find at the street named Alej Johanky z Rožmitálu at Stary Rozmital. It consists of two rooms with separate entrance at the family cottage. The first room is a former nail shop (workshop), at the second one there are information about this heavy craft and about history and places of interest of the village.

The aim of the museum is to remember already forgotten craft of hand made shoe nails and nails. There are some samples of products exhibited, tools, things of daily use of village people, origin rock blog and forge, shoe with shoe nails, postcards etc.

Entrance to the private museum, that is opened since April to October, is free and – as the the owner says – necessary. Opening hours: every day from reasonable morning hour to sunset.

And one remark more: Stary Rozmital is known as a place of origin of world famous Czech Christmas Mass at the end of 18th century. Composer Jakub Jan Ryba lived here and composed the mass at the local church. He is burried at the cemetery next to church.

Diese Website ist einem Nagelschmiedemuseum und dem Dorf Starý Rožmitál (Alt Rosenthal), Stadtteil von Rožmitál pod Třemšínem, in der Tschechischen Republik gewidmet. Die Ortschaft ist 80 km südwestlich von Prag entfernt.

Mehr als 200 Jahre war die Produktion von handgeschmiedeten Nägeln und Schuhnägeln gerade im Tal von Rožmitál konzentriert. In Dörfen beinahe in jedem zweiten Haus war ein Nagelschmiedewerkstatt. Die Nagler erzeugten die Schuhnägel meistens für Armee während des ersten und zweiten Weltkrieges und Nägel für den Verbrauch in der Umgebung.

Das Nagelschmiedemuseum ( 49°36'22.987"N, 13°51'7.832"E ) befindet sich in der Allee (Alej Johanky z Rožmitálu) in Starý Rožmitál.

In einem Häuschen mit dem Extraeingang aus der Strasse sind zwei Räume – der erste bildet ein Originalwerkstatt, der zweite ist mit den Informationstafel über das Nagelschmiedegewerbe und Geschichte des Dorfes ausgestattet.

Das Museum war gegründet um das mühsame Gewerbe, das besteht nicht mehr, nicht zu vergessen. Im Museum sind mehrere Exponate ausgesstellt wie z.B. verschiedene Nägel, Schuhnägel, Werkzeuge, ursprüngliche Esse, einen Nagelstock, einen benagelten Schuh, Fotos, Ansichtskarten usw.

Eintritt ins Museum, das vom April bis Oktober geöffnet ist, ist frei und – wie sagt der Inhaber – nötig. Öffnungszeiten: von vernünftiger Morgenstunde bis Sonnenuntergang.

Und noch eine Bemerkung: In der Kirche von Starý Rožmitál hat der Komponist Jakub Jan Ryba am Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts die weltberühmte Böhmische Weihnachts(Hirten)messe (Meister, schau!) komponiert. Der Künstler ist auf dem Friedhof an der Kirche begraben.
